Recognition of Current Competency - what's that?

If you've been supervising, managing or leading workplace teams for some time you've probably developed a range of competencies that have never been formally recognised.

Recognition is a process through which you demonstrate that you already possess the skills or competencies taught in a particular module, unit of competence or course.

You may be able to fast-track some units of the Frontline Management training program if you already possess competencies taught in the program.

For example, you could gain a Statement of Attainment for the competencies you can already demonstrate, and then do the rest through training. If you can demonstrate all the competencies required, you could gain a Certificate or Diploma in Frontline Management depending on the level at which you use these competencies in your work.

How do I know if I qualify?

So start by checking the list of competencies required against your work record (or CV), your life experience and your current knowledge and skill. If you think you have some of these competencies, complete an RCC Application.

You can then send this in and we will arrange for you to talk with a SkillsCentral advisor about the next steps, the time and cost involved and the options available.

How is competency assessed?

Competency is assessed by reviewing evidence you provide to demonstrate your on the job knowledge and skills.

What kind of 'evidence' is needed?

The assessor will determine exactly what and how much evidence you need to provide to make the assessment.

What standards will I be assessed against?

Candidates are judged against established standards or benchmarks. These standards have been developed by industry and are called competency standards. Competency standards may also be referred to as units of competency.

Who does the assessment?

SkillsCentral will appoint an assessor. Assessors must have demonstrated their own competence in the particular competency being assessed and in the following three units of competency from the Training Package in Assessment and Workplace Training:

The fees charged depend on the level of assessment required.We will give you details on the actual cost when you speak to your SkillsCentral advisor.

How long will it take?

The length of time to complete the process depends on how much work needs to be done to evidence competency and have it assessed.

While each person's time will be different, we estimate it should take around 12weeks to go through the whole process from start to finish.
